Wooden Sideboards Design

Is there any difference between sideboard, buffet, server or credenza ? from an interior designer point of view yes there are difference. but from our point of view as indonesian furniture factory, not that much of a difference. a sideboard for us as a “carpenter” sort of saying, is a storage cabinets with drawer and door used in livingroom or dining room. any cabinet with only drawer we call it chest of drawers, any cabinets with door only we call it wardrobe or cupboard. we know we are wrong explaining wooden sideboards design…maybe wikipedia explain it better below…

A sideboard, also called a buffet, is an item of furniture traditionally used in the dining room for serving food, for displaying serving dishes such as silver, and for storage. It usually consists of a set of cabinets, or cupboards, and one or more drawers, all topped by a flat display surface for conveniently holding food, serving dishes, or lighting devices. The overall height of the tops of most sideboards is approximately waist level. The words sideboard and buffet are somewhat interchangeable, but if the item has short legs, or a base that sits directly on the floor with no legs, it is more likely to be called a sideboard; if it has longer legs it is more likely to be called a buffet.

The earliest versions of the sideboard familiar today made their appearance in the 18th century, but they gained most of their popularity during the 19th century as households became prosperous enough to dedicate a room solely to dining. Sideboards were made in a range of decorative styles and were frequently ornamented with costly veneers and inlays. In later years, sideboards have been placed in living rooms or other areas where household items might be displayed.

Material We Use

We use 2 main wooden material to manufacture our wooden sideboards design, teak wood use for modern and simple design and all our teak furniture, mahogany used for classic design and all our painted furniture. teak is not really suitable for solid color painted furniture due it’s high oil content, which can cause yellowing or color degradation to it’s final result. that’s why we use mahogany for painted furniture.

For finishing materials, we use almost all of them, melamine is the cheapest and easiest to work with but the odor is not that good, while nitrocellulose and polyrethane base is more acceptable but cost higher than melamine. waterbase material also in our list of finishing material we are capable to work with, they are quiet easy to work with and not so expensive, but smoothness is not really comparable to solvent base materials. there is ups and down for all, it’s depends on what we needs.
